Noise/Silence/Girl
Noise/Silence/Girl

Noisilencio is one of the new productions to hit the music industry; it just started October of last year, 2002. It's an on-going project, now stretching its third leg, that presents the contrasting ideas of noise & silence - that is, half of the participating bands are aggressive, while the other half conforms to more subtle tones. Quite interesting, isn't it? But that's just the tip of the iceberg once you find out about who built the groundwork.
Susanne Laurie Osorio, or better known as Estelle, is the girl behind Noisilencio's wheel - and a lot more. She's a manager of five bands : the most renowned being Jeepney Joyride; the rest are up-and-comers Weedisneys, Splitcide, Fine Instant Noodles (F.I.N) and Tribbiani. And of course, her own band shouldn't be left behind - Summitstar - of which she is the vocalist and rhythm guitarist. Surely that's not all there is to Estelle, because she is still just a high school senior at St. Paul Pasig, only about to turn 18 later this year. She is indeed training early for multi-tasking.
Her entrance to the scene a couple of years ago was courtesy of Rivermaya. No, Estelle did not use connections. "I interviewed Rico Blanco, Mike Elgar and Japs Sergio kasi for a music project, it was about songwriting…dun nagumpisa lahat." Rico Blanco's words inspired her to pick up her guitar and start writing songs, and three months later, Summitstar was born. "We're not perfect, but we're having fun", Estelle admits. "Personally, Summitstar is a blessing for me." After their first few gigs, she started to meet other people, gig frequenters & bands alike. This is where her "managing instincts" kicked in. "Appreciator talaga ako of music and bands, so I try to help out those that I like."
To handle bands and a production also requires a balance between these and Estelle's other non-music curriculum like school; and ultimately, requires time management. She claims, "It's very challenging and rewarding at the same time…" With reward, she refers to the experiences of catching the action & being in the scene: "The people you meet are amazing! Nakakamangha sa talent at sa passion."; and the knowledge she continuously gains from her tasks, especially from the communication with different people. "You don't get that from school!"
Why Estelle commits to these undertakings is simply a matter of love, and she has been dreaming about being part of the music scene ever since she was 13. Now she is slowly approaching the reality of it, and still it's free to dream further again. Gathering all her hopes for the futures of her projects: "end goal is happiness talaga…" And if she stands strong on her love for music and the industry, then a young & multitasking girl like her would definitely go places.
